Features
Features can be customised for each league, but typically include:
- Secure private portals for league administrators, clubs, team captains, and umpires.
- The Club Portal enables clubs to update their team captain details, vote on resolutions, and view their fines.
- The Captain and Umpire Portals are used to submit match reports throughout the season.
- Match Reports use attractive and user-friendly Kendo UI components to display and input data.
- The Administration Portal is used by league officials to login and update all areas. There is a suite of Management Reports based on the match report data.
- The Administration Portal Dashboard includes a Support Section and a number of KPI charts that provide instant feedback on site visits and match reports performance.
- Included in match reports is the facility for umpires and captains, if no umpires are appointed, to submit player discipline reports in accordance with the stipulated ECB Levels.
- League Administrators update the details of club representatives, team captains, umpires and their fixture appointments.
- A role based system faciltates different types of Administrator, e.g. a System Administrator that can do everything, a News Administrator that can just create and update news articles, a Photographer Administrator who can upload and register images that can appear in the Gallery and be used for news articles. The roles can be configured to what suits each league.
- The website homepage typically includes an eye catching full screen image slider with overlay captions, a news section and a What's-On Calendar.
- There is searchable Image Gallery, which can be added to by Photographer Administrators.
- Both the design of a league's Play-Cricket website and own website are made harmonious.
- Navigation in both websites cross link and compliment each other.
- All parts of the website are responsively designed making it possible for captains, umpires, and league administrators to use any device, ranging from a desktop computer down to a mobile phone.
Hosting & Development
Exceptional performance is achieved with our league websites by ensuring that all areas are built expertly using the latest components and services available through Microsoft.
This includes:
- We use the latest version of Dot Net, jQuery, JavaScript, Kendo UI, and Azure NuGet Code packages to build our league websites.
- We use Kendo UI and JQuery to build rich and user-friendly interfaces driven by the site's data. In particular this procures fantastic data grids and charts.
- Each league website has its own dedicated Microsoft SQL Server database, that is firewall protected and backed up daily.
- League websites are hosted with Azure, have scalable resources, and effectively unlimited capacity to upload and store files.
- League websites are backed up daily by Azure and a further copy of the latest version of the site is kept by WWD using GitHub.
A big advantage of our league websites is that whilst a league site starts out with similar core design and functionality it can be customised precisely to fit a league's own requirements, which can be further adapted over time.
API
Our league websites incorporate a unique API Adapter that communicates with the Play-Cricket API to import all necessary data.
This works as follows:
- Each league solution contains an API Adapter Project that incorprates functions that call the various Play-Cricket API endpoints.
- An Azure API Function for each league uses CRON scheduling to call the Play-Cricket API typically once a week during the cricket season.
- When the Play-Cricket API is called the data returned in JSON format is extracted and inserted in to a number of staging tables in the league's database.
- The data in the staging tables is used by a number of scheduled stored procedures to update the main database tables.
- In practical terms this results in new fixtures being added, changes in fixtures being updated, new teams being setup, new captain and umpire match reports being setup, and teams that have left the league being deactivated.
- Imported Play-Cricket fixture and team ID's are used in the league website to open scorecards in the Play-Cricket site from both Fixtures and Results pages.
Our API Adapter has been working flawlessly for the Thames Valley Cricket League for the last 2 years and for the Birmingham & District Premier League and Worcestershire County League for over 5 years. The exceptionally high productivity of the whole 'match reports system' saves the 3 leagues a huge amount of administration time when compared to what came before.
